Darwin's Origin of Species by way of the King James Bible
My buddy Ian Monroe doesn't suffer creationists. Over many a brew, I've heard him attribute most of the ills the world ever suffered to religion with the type of fervor often characterized as ... religious. The sentiment is common enough. But now Mr. Monroe has gone the extra mile with the publishing of his first book, The ___ of ___ by Means of Natural ___ .
The book is the text of Darwin's Origin of Species with every word that does not appear in the King James Bible redacted (Ian knows computers and managed this feat with a bit of PHP script). He's calling it an objet ‘d art, and it's meant to emphasize the extent to which the Bible is incompatible with, or at least behind, modern thought.
Here's the author himself:
"I think it says something about fundamentalism and language. I also hope it says something about the absurdity of creationism, and the importance of science in how we understand the world."
There's something to be said for ancient wisdom, divine or no. And it's worth observing that King Lear would probably fair no better than the KJB if put to the same test. But, then again, the crusades weren't fought over King Lear.
